LESS STRESS THROUGH DIGITAL COACH FOR PEOPLE OVER 55

21.10.2020
AIT coordinated AAL project mHealthINX for drug-free stress reduction

Occupational stress often leads to secondary illnesses, such as depression, anxiety, and cardiovascular diseases, especially among older employees. These do not only affect the health of the people, but they also have a negative effect on the gross national product in this frequency. The costs of work-related depression in Europe amount to EUR 620 billion per year. With mHealthINX, the AIT Centers Health & Bioresources and Digital Safety & Security, and nine European partners develop an effective stress management solution, focusing on older workers.

According to the motto: Indication - iNtervention - eXperience, affected persons are actively supported by the mHealthINX solution. The users regularly record the individual stress level with the help of their Smartphone - here, the subjective feeling is combined through questionnaires and objective bio-signal measurements through measuring instruments. Based on these data, mHealthINX offers personal support in everyday life, which points out critical stress levels, suggests individual solutions, and documents the overall progress.

The system offers support, consultation, and personal training in one solution. On the way and at work, it accompanies the users unobtrusively on the Smartphone. At home, it offers extensive training and stress management through virtual reality training units that coach and support users.

The AIT Centers Health & Bioresources and Digital Safety & Security combine their expertise in virtual coaching and behavioral technologies, bio-signal processing, cardiovascular diagnostics, and virtual reality-based applications and training.

Under the AIT coordination, 10 European organizations from Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands have joined to implement the mHealthINX solution. The three-year project is co-financed by the Active and Assisted Living Program (AAL) and the national funding agencies FFG (Austria), Swiss Confederation (Switzerland), and ZonMw (Netherlands). The total project volume amounts to EUR 2.9 million.
