Optimization of photovoltaic self-absorption by using block chain

11.08.2020
The research project Peer2Peer im Quartier (P2PQ) starts with the evaluation phase

The project Peer2Peer in the neighborhood is concerned with the implementation of applications that optimally distribute the produced photovoltaic electricity among the inhabitants (peers) of a residential complex (neighborhood). The basis for this is a block chain, which was developed by the partner Riddle&Code. The advantages of this technology range from data security to quick and easy conclusion of contracts between two or more parties to a confidential billing platform. By means of a foresighted optimizer, which was developed by the AIT Center for Energy, it is possible to store the produced photovoltaic electricity efficiently in a battery and to deliver it according to the forecasted demand and to act between the residents. In order to get an overview of the generated transactions, power consumption and production, the AIT Center for Technology Experience developed a clear and user* friendly web application, which displays the complex data of the block chain in simple graphs.

P2PQ recently entered the evaluation phase and is currently being used by the residents of "Viertel Zwei". Residents who have "Wien Energie" as their electricity provider can test P2PQ here as a new electricity tariff. The Center for Technology Experience is now investigating how residents can cope with optimized electricity trading based on block chain.
