13.01.2016
Stefan Seer, AIT Mobility, presented research and innovation at the European Railway Summit 2015

The 11th European Railways Summit took place in Vienna from 17th to 18th November 2015. The Railway Summit is a top-ranking information and discussion platform on the future of the European railway transportation and fosters the dialogue between politics, industry and transport industry. At the conference, which was organized by Business Circle and Österreichische Verkehrswissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (ÖVG), high-ranking speakers from Austria and abroad presented new approaches to the topic “Railway 4.0” and the railway’s road to digitalization in Europe.

In his presentation Stefan Seer, Scientist at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, Mobility Department, outlined selected innovative projects from Dynamic Crowd Solutions in the railway area, which had come from research to implementation. He covered the range from the successfully implemented access-control system CONTROL at the metro station „Stadion“ in Vienna to the prediction and analysis of passenger flows in infrastructures and vehicles with SIMULATE and to various cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As trendsetting finish he presented the project TransitBuddy. The project on the smart luggage trolley dealt with the research on an autonomous vehicle for users with limited mobility at big public transport hubs. It allows a safe and comfortable transfer for passengers in important traffic junctions and facilitates their navigation.
