Dr. Wibowo has intensively been working on the Synthesis of earth-abundant kesterite (Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 materials for thin film photovoltaics by wide variety of processing routes, from vacuum-based (sputtering, pulsed laser deposition) and non-vacuum-based processes (electrochemical deposition).
His current research activities are developing novel approach for high-throughput kesterite fabrication process using solution-based process, investigating the alternative inorganic-organic buffer layer for kesterite  and assessing the low temperature chalcogenisation for synthesizing kesterite and chalcopyrite Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se)2 films.
In addition to kesterite research, he has also solid experiences on the preparation and characterisation of transparent conducting oxides (ZnO, Al-doped ZnO, Ga-doped ZnO and Indium-Tin Oxide) films and diverse Cd-free buffer layers for chalcogenide-based thin film photovltaics.
