Transport Infrastructure - Structural Dynamics

Today, buildings are subject to increasing dynamic stresses. Vibrations not only put their users' safety and quality of life in danger, they also affect the life span of a building or any sensitive objects inside. Through a combination of on-site vibration measurements and mathematical methods, the Business Unit is able to create realistic simulations for bridges, roads or buildings and simulate the various structural dynamic scenarios.

Another focal point is the assessment of the earthquake resistance of the infrastructure. With VICTORIA, a reaction mass exciter for on-site measurements of critical buildings, the team has access to a highly sophisticated research infrastructure. This allows construction processes or passing trains, for example, to be simulated by triggering artificial vibrations underground. The forecasting models created by AIT form the basis for the monitoring of the expected extent of the vibration.
