Solar cell development support

Major development efforts in solar cell technology are currently aimed at reducing the material and production costs of the modules.

International research focuses on classical crystalline silicon cells and established thin-film cells (a-Si, µ-Si, CdTe, CIS, CIGS etc.), as also on nano-structured and organic cells and alternative semiconductor materials.

The Energy Department offers extensive expertise in a wide range of analysis and measurement methods for all these technologies to support companies in developing new cost-effective solar cells and modules.

  • Analysis of hot spot effects
  • Infrared thermography
  • Electroluminescence measurements
  • Microscopy
  • Determination of maximum reverse current
  • Performance measurements on individual solar cells
