8th International Conference on the Integration of Renewable and Distributed Energy Resources

Facing the climate change by massive integration of renewable energy production in the power system is on the forefront of research and discussions. The changes in the global power sector are dramatic, due to increasing developments within renewable and distributed energy sources (DER), the evolution of electricity markets, and communication technologies. The 8th International Conference on the Integration of Renewable and Distributed Energy Resources (IRED 2018), hosted by the Austrian Institute for Technology (AIT) and the the Federal Ministry for Transport (BMVIT), addresses the future of these distributed energy sources.

The „Aspern Smart City Research“ project, based in Vienna, is a great showcase for this kind of research, focused on finding solutions for energy flexibility, customising products, and investigating how individual people interact with these components. The goal is to optimize energy utilization and consumption, and research related technologies. The research findings could make a key contribution to developing solutions for the future energy needs of whole cities.

IRED 2018, taking place at Vienna’s Parkhotel Schönbrunn on 17-19th October 2018, is a global conference that concentrates on the future of distributed energy resources and their share in the power system management and operation. 250 experts from industry, government and academia will share their perspectives on technologies, research and know-how and engage in sessions, panel discussions and networking events.

The Chairs of the event are Michael Hübner from the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology and Helfried Brunner from the AIT.
