Awarded at the Annual YEAR Conference in Vienna

The YEAR Annual Conference 2014 took place in Vienna, Austria on 12th and 13th of May. The two-day conference of the Young European Associated Researchers hosted by AIT Safety and Security Department brought together more than fifty young researchers from seven different research organisations (AICIA, AIT, SINTEF, TNO, VITO, VTT and Fraunhofer).

On the first day, presentations and panels discussions on best practices to set up a European research consortium and to build up a valorisation plan were conducted by experts in the field from research organisations and industries.

The second day was dedicated to the workshop on project ideas for the YEAR Awards 2014: 19 project ideas were presented by young researchers to win one of the two YEAR Awards of 5000€ each to establish their pre-project with other European partners and to attend an European Project Management training course.

The five project ideas pre-selected by the participants were further developed in teams for a couple of hours and finally presented to the jury for the final selection of the two winning project ideas. Antti Iivari, VTT in collaboration with AIT and Bart Michielsen, VITO in collaboration with AIT, TNO and VTT won the second edition of the YEAR Awards for their project ideas entitled Smart IoT Gateway for Healthcare and Upcycling of industrial waste into value added products, respectively.
