SyrNemo - Synchronous Reluctance Next Generation Efficient Motors for Electric Vehicles
SyrNemo is anEU FP7 project,whichaims for designing, prototyping and testing an innovative permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machine (PMaSYRM). The machine shall besuitable for the integrationin a hatchback rear driving axle vehicle, achieving the maximum possible energy efficiency in urban operational conditions.
The mass- and volume specific power densities are increased by approximately 5% compared to state-of-the-art PMSMs. This is achieved through an innovative magnetic reluctance rotor design with optional ferrites, novel bar winding stator design as well as integrated power electronics and air-cooling system. SyrNemo is rare-earth free whereas the proposed rotor design allows using future magnet materials with high energy density. It is easy to manufacture, dismantle, and recycle and benefits from a native eco-design to ensure a minimum environmental impact. SyrNemo preliminary performances are:
- Peak torque of 133 Nm at 3,700 rpm;
- Peak power of 56.7 kW at 4,900 rpm;
- Peak efficiency above 96% around 4,000±500 rpm and 50±20 Nm, decreasing to 93-94% by including the inverter efficiency (i.e. system efficiency).
SyrNemo constitutes a step ahead in the development of market-ready rare-earth free machines for next generation electric vehicles, and has been presented as EU Commission Research Success Story at the Transport Research Arena 2016.
