Energy in Buildings

The buildings of the future use know-how from many areas of research to reduce energy and environmental costs while at the same time providing greater comfort for the occupants.

The Energy Department is able to leverage its interdisciplinary expertise to develop innovative, holistic concepts which redefine both the building structure itself as well as the energy systems integrated into the building from the perspective of sustainability.

The ideal building of the future – the energy-plus building – will not only consume less energy, it will also feed energy back into the grid, thereby playing an active role in the network.

Our experts are also working on the optimisation of control strategies for efficiently redistributing heating and cooling.

Effective reduction, storage and production methods are being identified and implemented through the development of new simulation techniques.
